Encore!

On a rainy Saturday, the Latino Cultural center provided me and some compadres the chance to take in a delighful and quite humorous operatic feature: Dr Miracle. It was a free, short feature (50 minutes), where one could gasp and laugh until their hearts content. Nay, not your typical, quiet and lengthy opera, but it was still as wonderful.
We laughed and squealed with delight at the shananigans of a young and very handsome lad vying for the hand of a beautiful maiden. Her father the Governor had other matrimonial plans for her. Yes, he wanted her to marry a rich, older man who was a chemist.
What a delight this opera was!!! Le denouement came when zee omelette was served. It was a much celebrated and splendid omelette indeed! With all of the talk about the fine omelette and butter used to make it, we set off to dine on Thai and Vietnamese cuisine at Malai afterwards. It was a lively and delightful time and respite before continuing on to our secondary operatic adventure.

Vietnamese-style eggs benedict. Various dishes of veggies and jasmine fried rice, lemon and "angry" chicken and noodles.
At the Winspear Opera House for the finalists round. Ten talented hopefuls vied for financial awards to further their operatic dreams.

It was a great way to spend a rainy day and evening. Encore! Encore une fois!

Calatrava Splendor!

A weekend of celebration commemorating the soon to be opened Margaret Hunt Hill vehicular bridge. The first Santiago Calatrava designed bridge in North America. An architectural beauty, which will bring east and west Dallas together.

Argh!!!

I am having some difficulties getting pics to upload on my blog. I've been doing so many things that I've wanted to share. Without the pics, it's a list of words, but it will have to do for now.

This past weekend I went to the Southside on Lamar Lofts Flea Market and had a blast!!! It began with a bite of tenderness at Off the Bone BBQ. I had the chicken with beans and potato salad. Yum-O. Washed it down with cool and refreshing ice tea. Next, we (my friend Nancy, along with some other folks) meandered down the block to the market. Lots of vintage finds and abstract art pieces. I managed to snatch up a cute, eclectic clutch, while Nancy snagged a cool, vintage martini shaker set and an owl-decorated box purse. We were able to take a brief break at Opening Bell coffee house, located in the basement below, before heading back to relook at some things. The crowd had dispersed by then, so it gave us a better opportunity to mull over some potential purchases.

All in all, it was chill day. The weather was PERFECT--sunny and cool, and it felt good to be out and about on a Saturday in South Dallas. Definitely looking forward to our next adventure. - EF.
